There are many great towns and cities in Britain (outside London) that are perfect for a day’s shopping; Leeds, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Manchester, Cambridge and Brighton to name but a few. So why not indulge yourself and round up a couple of girlfriends and plan a day away? If you have children you could leave them with your partner (get him involved!). Sometimes school holidays can be more stressful and exhausting, so a break and a change of scenery to recharge your batteries will make you feel re-energized as you tackle the rest of the holidays. If you are single, just pick up the phone, your friends will be glad that someone has taken the initiave to organize something.
As its summer, let’s take a closer look at the city of Brighton and Hove on the south coast. Prince Regent made the area fashionable after his first visit in 1783; he fell in love with Brighton and went on to commission the building of The Royal Pavilion. In 1841 with the arrival of the railway, Brighton was more accessible to Londoners, it attracted many day trippers, the town was also known as a health resort, as the seawater was thought to bring many health benefits. Brighton is often known as ‘London by the Sea’, as it is just 50 minutes train journey from Victoria. Its population is made up of students from all over the world, young families and famously has a vibrant gay scene.
You will not get bored in Brighton, there is plenty to do. If you are there early enough you could have a delicious breakfast at Bill’s Produce Store (The Depot, 100 North Road), or for a traditional ‘greasy spoon’ you could go to Cafe Motu (6 Trafalgar Street), a no frills café that serves a fantastic English breakfast.
Then you could take a slow amble through the North Laines, and look at all the amazing independent shops selling vintage clothes, baby clothes, lovely homewear and beautiful jewellery. You could then book yourself in at The Treatment Rooms (New Road), a beauty salon and day spa. They offer all sorts of lovely treatments like a Swedish massage or an aromatherapy facial. You could then have a spot of lunch at Dermot O’Leary’s Fishy Fishy Seafood Brasserie (East Street).
After lunch you could pop into our Bravissimo store (North Street) and have a bra fitting from one of our experienced fitting consultants. If the sun is shining, and it usually is, there’s no better place to be. Give it a go this summer – and do pop in to our store to say hello!

There has been much giddiness in the Bravissimo office lately. The biggest boy band in history are touring once again and the ladies who saw them first time around (when they were still at school), are seeing them again and are even more excited at the prospect, if that is at all possible. Every so often on Twitter or Facebook, someone will write “I am so excited, only X amount of hours and counting til Take That!” There is something about those boys that makes them universally loved. A couple of them in the past may have looked like they were going to damage their reputation, but they seem to bounce back monumentally. Maybe, apart from the brilliant music they keep churning out, it is their ‘down to earth’ nature. We all have the feeling, that if we were to bump into any of the Take That boys in a lift, they would be friendly, funny and lacking any ego (apart from Robbie), and obviously they are all just a tad handsome too.
Unbelievably, there are still some tickets available for the next three days at Wembley. If you have missed out on tickets and can go last minute, check out Take That’s official website. And for a few show-stopping tops to wear if you are going, check out Pepperberry, we have some gorgeous embellished and sparkly tops that will stand out in the crowds. The Shoulder Detail Top is a slinky cowl neck and comes in curvy/really curvy and really/super curvy. The lovely soft taupe which is very on trend, will look great with white jeans and nude heels. The Side Embellished Jersey Top in black, is a wrap-over style top in a figure hugging stretch fabric, it is a deep v, so a plunge bra will be necessary with this one. Wear with an indigo pair of skinny jeans and some rock chick black suede wedges and you are all set for your greatest day…

The Printed Wrap Dress comes in sunny yellow, which is on trend at the moment. Wrap dresses are hugely flattering for bigger boobs, so this dress really does create amazing cleavage. It is suitable for work, worn with a fitted jacket and heels, or a day out with the girls, accessorising with a cardi and a pair of wedges.
Everyone needs a maxi dress in their wardrobe, they are great for a holiday to make you feel a bit dressed up after a day in your beachwear, or for a wedding or day at the races. The Floral Print Maxi Dress is a beautiful, feminine and floaty maxi, it has a large, vibrant floral and is fully lined.
The Bandeau Strappy Top in fitted jersey, is a must have for every summer wardrobe, it comes in black, cobalt blue, lemon, orange and white, you can wear it as a bandeau, or with the strap as a halterneck, it has a integrated bra, so you can go braless too. This top is extremely versatile, you could wear it with wide palazzo pants, cropped tapered chinos, a fifties full skirt, or a great pair of shorts; which brings us nicely to the Button Front Short, they come in navy and white and look great with a vest, or a little cotton shirt and waistcoat for that smarter look.
Finally to finish off your summer looks, you need something fabulous on your arm, so check out the Canvas Shopper Bag, this bag is an excellent wardrobe staple and will look great with any of the above outfits.

The good news is that the transition between chillier and warmer weather at this time of year can easily be navigated with items that you probably already have in your wardrobe, add them to your summer clothes and you have a wardrobe that will see you through to August.
The denim jacket is a winner this time of year and everyone has one somewhere in their wardrobe. A denim jacket can be worn over a pretty day dress, see Pepperberry’s Cotton Frill Day Dress, or looks fantastic with a maxi dress, like Bravissimo’s Coral Print Maxi Dress, and, if sandals are a touch too optimistic, a pair of plimsolls will work just as well with both of these looks.
The other great transitional piece is ‘The Shirt’ – it can be worn with jeans, or this season’s khaki or beige chinos. See Pepperberry’s fabulous Relaxed Fit Chinos in stone. The humble shirt can also be worn with a button through denim skirt, which is more substantial than a cotton skirt, if the weather is chilly. So whether it’s classic white or checked, the shirt is a must, for the changeable weather. Don’t miss Pepperberry’s own version – the Check Woven Blouse.
A boyfriend cardigan is incredibly versatile, it can be belted and worn over tapered trousers or skinny jeans and can also be worn loose over shorts or a dress. Pepperberry’s Boyfriend Cardigan in Mocha looks fabulous over the Mint Swirl Dress, wear with leggings, if there is a nip in the air. Also everywhere in the high street at the moment you will find shorts. Love them or hate them, Pepperberry have a pretty fabulous pair, the Button Front Shorts in white, which look great with a wide striped vest or t-shirt, add plimsolls or a pair of wedges to complete the nautical look.
So we can now feel confident that whatever the British weather throws at us in the coming months, we have it covered and, someone once said, “There is no such thing as bad weather only bad clothes.”

The final fashion week was held in Paris and boy did they pack a lot in! The fashion capital had stunning collections which featured soft tailoring, maxi skirts and dresses, print-a-plenty, lace, colour blocking and tartan to name but a few trends on the catwalk of a city that is famous for its style.
In Paris, as in the other cities, all over black was a strong trend. However, Paris being Paris there had to be twist and that came in the form of top-to-toe white outfits to contradict the black seen throughout the A/W 2011 catwalks elsewhere. White is the norm for summer collections but practically unheard of for winter ones as we don’t know anyone who can wear white in winter without it quickly turning grey. The Bravissimo office included; we’re much more likely to try the all over black trend, it will probably also involve less washing! The key to getting this trend right is to contrast textures; woolly cardigans, fury jumpers, silk tops, denim and leather can all be combined to create a dark and interesting look with a bit of a rock chick edge. Try layering your favourite black dress with a black textured cardigan and black leather jacket or coat.
From Paris Fashion Week we have learned that we will be getting more wear out of our maxi skirts and maxi dresses than we first thought, which is a bonus, whatever we wear it should be black, harsh edges are out, soft feminine tailoring is in and that we will be able to get at least one more season out of our tartan pieces. We will still however always wonder how on earth Parisienne ladies look so chic. How do they do it?!

Milan had a ladylike feel with country looks made up with tweeds, furs and silk heads scarves which created a demure and sophisticated look. We think we’d potentially adopt some stylish tweed and maybe even a silk scarf but we’ll wear it around our necks as opposed to around our heads to keep the look modern. Our Herringbone Tweed dress is just what the fashion doctor ordered and will benefit your wallet as well as your wardrobe as it’s now in the sale at £17.50!!!
It’s great to see more wearable clothes on the catwalk and outfits that we can actually picture ourselves wearing. The 1950’s has influenced our way of dressing for many years so it’s good to see flattering 50’s A-line skirts and feminine styles still going strong. Our 1950’s wrap dress hits two trends in one and will keep you ahead of the game in the fashion stakes with its fabulous bell shape and layered black chiffon material.
From the classy to the fun, Milan had it all, as a stark contrast to rural ladylike chic there was the fun young urban fur wearer. We’re talking bright blue fur adorned sleeves, all over fur dresses and trim detailing. On the catwalk the look was a little too Cookie Monster for our liking but in more neutral colours and less obvious places, we think we could wrapping up in fur of the faux variety more than ever next season.
Polka dots were also present on the run way with a vintage feel to them. Think a 1950’s A-line skirt worn with a cute polka dot top to get this look right. Our fabulous polka dot top will look great worn with an A-line or pencil skirt and also looks fab with jeans and more casual outfits. Team this top with navy for a cool spring look and get bit of red, white and blue into your wardrobe.

London was another all or nothing affair but this time the focus was on colour, or lack of it. There were two distinct camps at the latest London Fashion Week; camp colour and camp black. The colour backers either clashed, complemented or blocked but one thing’s for sure, there is certainly a lot of fun to be had with colour both this season and next. Our top tip is to discover the shades that suit you and stick to them. Not everyone looks good in the same colours so it’s important to know the shades you can carry off and the tones to avoid. If you have a pale complexion you should steer clear of wearing any particularly bold shades near to your face. Instead keep the colour focused on the bottom half (such as a skirt, trousers, shorts or dress which carries its bolder shades on the bottom half) to avoid looking washed out. Our Flower Print Shift dress has the right balance of colour to complement a paler skin tone as well as suiting darker skin tones too. Those with a warmer complexion have the advantage of being able to wear much braver tones and will have more freedom of how to wear them too; a colour statement coat will brighten up your autumn wardrobe and try a bold coloured dress like our Notch Neck Shift dress to add some oomph to your summer wardrobe.
We’re grateful that longer length skirts and dresses will be sticking around next season as they are incredibly versatile and can be easily updated with fine knits come autumn and worked into the layered look; another trend for Autumn/Winter 2011. Go bold by contrasting bright colours or textured black pieces or keep it soft and subtle by layering nude tones.
Look out for;
- Crochet knits like your grandma used to make
- Fur (faux of course)
- Oversized coats
- Interesting texture
- And reworked classics such as the Mac
