What a wet week! Just when we thought it couldn’t rain anymore, it did and then it rained some more. In fact, a whole month’s rain in two days in some parts of the country. Our mood maybe a wee bit damp just like the weather, so here are two reasons to smile and start your Friday off on the right note…it’s nearly the weekend and it’s payday…Hurrah. The weekend means a lie-in (hopefully), copious amounts of tea or coffee, relaxing in front of Saturday night TV, (a whole night’s viewing and you don’t have to use your brain once) and maybe a bit of socialising.
The weekend is a great opportunity to catch up with friends. We all lead extremely busy lives and sometimes the most important things on our to do list get pushed to the bottom, making way for seemingly more urgent things, like washing the dog or cleaning out the fridge. And one of the most important things is to spend time with the people we love and love to be around. Something as simple as going shopping with a friend is time well spent, and most of us don’t do enough of it.
As women, we tend to rush around sorting out everyone else, but neglect time spent on ourselves. So if you do one thing this weekend, arrange to see your friends. As teenage girls we practically lived around each others houses and our friends were the most important people in our lives, but as we get older and build careers and have families, our mates take a back seat. So those friends that you haven’t spoken to for ages, why not text or give them a ring and those friends that live near enough, why not arrange a day out with them? You could plan a shopping trip or visit an art gallery, or both if you are feeling energetic. And if you are stuck for what to do, why not pop into one of our stores, and you both could have a bra fitting, if you haven’t had one in while. Ring ahead and book a 20 minute consultation with one of our trained fitters.
You will also get to see our some of brand new lingerie styles for summer. They are utterly gorgeous, like the Primrose Bra by Bravissimo, based on the shape of the bubbles bra, it is a combination of polka dots and floral embroidery. Available in white/lemon, it is so fresh, it will give you an instant summery feeling and it might even make you part with some of your hard earned cash.
However you choose to spend the weekend Ladies, enjoy yourselves and don’t forget your brollies!

The nights are drawing in, the days are chillier and summer is just a distant memory. What’s there to be cheery about? Well it’s the start of the weekend, many of us are planning our Friday night outfits, and the rest of us are planning our Friday night TV viewing. Its Saturday tomorrow, and therefore a great opportunity to put the stresses and strains of the week behind you and catch up with friends.
Many of us head to the high street for a bit of retail therapy with our girlfriends, as us girls bond over shopping, like men bond over football or rugby. And you don’t have to spend a fortune to have a great day; it’s more about the browsing and chatting than about how much you spend.
There definitely a buzz at this time of year on Britain’s high streets, it is perfect weather to amble and comfortable temperatures to shop in. Christmas is still quite a way off, so the high street is quiet in comparison to the shopping frenzy that takes place in the weeks prior to the 25th December. If you are super organised you could even start your Christmas shopping early, so you have nothing more to do except enjoy yourself in the run up to the big day.
If you happen to be in the vicinity of your local Bravissimo store, pop in and say hello. One of our consultants would be happy to show you some of the lovely new styles of lingerie that have just come in, like the gorgeous Naomi Bra by Freya. For Freya fans out there, you will know that it gives amazing rounded and upfront shape and the new dogtooth print in noir gives it a formal, grown up look, and the contrast with black and fuchsia lace gives it a sexy, sassy, twist.
While you are shopping at Bravissimo, take a look at our Pepperberry range as they would make great Christmas gifts. We have some stylish accessories including our Driving Gloves. These are available in two colours, pink and black and are made from genuine leather; they are totally on trend and would make a great pressie for a sister or a friend.
Also you can’t go wrong with the Ombre Scarf, available in black/grey, which makes it easy to wear with any colour winter coat. A perfect choice for Mum if you are stuck for ideas.
So ladies, whatever you do, have a great Saturday and if you are heading to your high street, don’t forget to visit us at Bravissimo.

There are many great towns and cities in Britain (outside London) that are perfect for a day’s shopping; Leeds, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Manchester, Cambridge and Brighton to name but a few. So why not indulge yourself and round up a couple of girlfriends and plan a day away? If you have children you could leave them with your partner (get him involved!). Sometimes school holidays can be more stressful and exhausting, so a break and a change of scenery to recharge your batteries will make you feel re-energized as you tackle the rest of the holidays. If you are single, just pick up the phone, your friends will be glad that someone has taken the initiave to organize something.
As its summer, let’s take a closer look at the city of Brighton and Hove on the south coast. Prince Regent made the area fashionable after his first visit in 1783; he fell in love with Brighton and went on to commission the building of The Royal Pavilion. In 1841 with the arrival of the railway, Brighton was more accessible to Londoners, it attracted many day trippers, the town was also known as a health resort, as the seawater was thought to bring many health benefits. Brighton is often known as ‘London by the Sea’, as it is just 50 minutes train journey from Victoria. Its population is made up of students from all over the world, young families and famously has a vibrant gay scene.
You will not get bored in Brighton, there is plenty to do. If you are there early enough you could have a delicious breakfast at Bill’s Produce Store (The Depot, 100 North Road), or for a traditional ‘greasy spoon’ you could go to Cafe Motu (6 Trafalgar Street), a no frills café that serves a fantastic English breakfast.
Then you could take a slow amble through the North Laines, and look at all the amazing independent shops selling vintage clothes, baby clothes, lovely homewear and beautiful jewellery. You could then book yourself in at The Treatment Rooms (New Road), a beauty salon and day spa. They offer all sorts of lovely treatments like a Swedish massage or an aromatherapy facial. You could then have a spot of lunch at Dermot O’Leary’s Fishy Fishy Seafood Brasserie (East Street).
After lunch you could pop into our Bravissimo store (North Street) and have a bra fitting from one of our experienced fitting consultants. If the sun is shining, and it usually is, there’s no better place to be. Give it a go this summer – and do pop in to our store to say hello!

Last weekend end the clocks ‘sprung’ forward and officially marked the start of British Summer Time. (Hopefully you remembered and were not too confused when your smart phone changed automatically but the regular clocks did not). And boy, what a difference it makes. It’s not quite as light when we wake up which doesn’t make too much difference when we’re bleary eyed until the second caffeine fix at the earliest. What does make a huge difference however is how light the nights are. It’s now light when we get home from work which makes us feel like doing things after work instead of simply slinking into our comfy clothes and staying in. Besides, we stayed in all winter so are ready and raring to make the most of the milder weather and light evenings.
So how will you make the most of the lighter nights? You could arrange to meet up with the friends you haven’t seen for a while and go out for dinner, the lighter nights will make your evening feel extended and not cut them short by everyone wanting to rush home as soon as the sun goes down. You could start a class, evening classes are great for those little things you might always wanted to have tried but never got round to; a new language; a new skill; a cookery course or even a dance class. With all this extra energy buzzing around why not put it to good use? The ever looming summer has started a health kick in the Bravissimo office and at homes and offices up and down the country to get fit for the beach. If you’re not a gym bunny however you can still look fabulous in Bravissimo swimwear with its figure flattering shape and boob boosting features in a range of bikinis, tankinis and swimsuits to suit every style. For a great look on the beach without the strict diet and extreme exercise regime!

It’s not quite been a week yet but we’re already seriously craving the things we have given up. You may, like us, have eaten enough sugary stuff on Pancake Day to last the whole 46 days of Lent but sometimes denying ourselves something only makes us want it more! That’s why a reward is needed to keep us all going and to give us a light at the end of the tunnel to look forward to.
If you gave up shopping then firstly you’re much stronger than we are here at the Bravissimo office, secondly you might want to think of a reward that you can focus on to keep your motivation up. This will also give you time to think about the things you want to buy and if after 46 days you still can’t get that pair of shoes out of your head then you should treat yourself to them! If the feeling passes however then you’ll know you made the right decision and will have saved yourself a few pounds. Why not treat a loved one too? If you have a friend or family member who really deserves a treat, be it a post Lent treat or not, why not give them a Bravissimo gift voucher? That way they get to choose what they spend it on and you will be known as the kind thoughtful one!
If you’ve decided to give up chocolate, sweet things or other food stuffs that are generally bad for your health then you’ll probably be in the same boat as us (seriously craving them). Why not plan a spa day for some serious post Lent pampering? Not that we need an excuse some for some R&R but not eating chocolate for 46 days is quite a feat and a treat that doesn’t involve making up the calories will be far more rewarding.
Good luck, only another 40 days to go!

The 83rd Academy Awards took place last night at a swanky Hollywood venue and the stars were out in force. Amazingly British film The King’s Speech took home four awards; Colin Firth won yet another Best Actor Award for his trophy cabinet the film also won Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. The Brits notoriously don’t do that well at the Oscars however Firth and crew proved that with the right film and the right cast, even die hard American film fans cannot deny the sheer brilliance of a film that captured the hearts of film goers everywhere. The States’ interest and intrigue with the Royal family might have helped somewhat with the popularity of the film across the pond but for us it was the sincerity of the performances and the strength of both the fabulous cast and storyline that did it for us
We were also pleased that Natalie Portman won Best Actress for Black Swan as we think the film was stunning and no-one can deny Portman’s dedication to a role. She looked great too in a gorgeous floor length aubergine dress and had that pregnancy glow that no amount of Hollywood make-up can recreate. Christian Bale took home Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Fighter and Melissa Leo won Best Supporting Actress for the same film. Other winners of the evening were The Social Network that won Best Adapted Screenplay and Toy Story 3 for Best Animated Film.
Watching the Oscars made us realise all the great films that we wanted to go and see but never got round to. Why not plan an Oscar night of your own? Get your friends together for a night of film watching, cocktail drinking, glamorous red carpet worthy dresses and then head out for a night on the town. You could get dressed up and go to the cinema or wait until the films come out on DVD and have an Oscar winner’s film marathon of must see films; Black Swan, The King’s Speech, The Social Network, The Fighter and for the big kids, Toy Story 3.
Don’t forget the red carpet worthy dress;
1- The 50s Wrapover dress is simple and elegant, we love it because it can be transformed from day to evening with plenty of jewellery and striking make-up. Wear this dress with high heels, killer arm candy and red lipstick for a glamorous 1950s look.
2- Make a chic statement in the Nock Neck Shift Dress and add a splash of colour to your evening. We think this dress will look fabulous with statement earrings like Natalie Portman’s tassel drop earrings she wore to the Oscars to complement her purple dress.
3- No need for statement jewellery with the Crinkle Chiffon Dress as the embellished hem and sleeves on this dress will do all the talking! Wear with metallic heels and clutch bag.

Some weeks seem much longer than others and this past week has definitely felt that way but today is Friday and the weekend is almost here. However, this weekend isn’t a normal one as it’s Valentine’s Day on Monday, this particular weekend will be full of swooning couples and packed restaurants. So if you’re not in a relationship or don’t celebrate it here are some alternative things you could do;
1- Escape to the country; it’s the perfect excuse to leave your town or city behind and have a day or two in the great outdoors. It’s just about mild enough now to enjoy a walk, a bike ride or any other outdoor activity without the risk of frost bite. Do be prepared however for the inevitable changing weather conditions.
2- Have a pamper day; we don’t need an excuse for a pampering but think it would be extra well deserved after number 1. So dig out the body scrub, face masks and nail file and treat yourself, it doesn’t have to be an expensive health spa, plus you can wear your own dressing gown at home!
3- Avoid the crowds and shop online; the shops are full of pink fuzzy things, some we’re not even sure what they are, so escape the commerciality and shop online. Why not get your girlfriends together and do some browsing? That way you can keep warm, beat the crowds and build your own wish lists at the Bravissimo site.
4- If you are in a relationship why not turn up the heat in the bathroom and share a bubble bath together? It’s inexpensive and fun but watch out for taps digging into backs and slip hazards to make it romantic evening as opposed to an evening resulting in a trip to A&E.

Whether you love it or hate it, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and so the shops are full to the brim with ‘love’ themed merchandise; cuddly toys, mugs with hearts on and other novelty gifts that are essential in showing that special someone that you care.
If you’re more of an anti-valentine than a love bug however you could make the most of the increasing number of single parties that pop up at this time of year. Or use it as an excuse to get your girlfriends together for a night of glamming up and dancing, whether you’re in a relationship or not. We can sometimes feel awkward if single at this time of year, however, some couples prefer to keep Valentine’s Day more of a low key affair and stay in as opposed to dining in a restaurant surrounded by other couples gushing all over one another.
So if you do have a special someone why not treat them to a home cooked meal, that way you can be as gushy as you wish without putting others off their food. Plus dining in means that you can eat wherever you wish including the bedroom. Ok, so spaghetti on the duvet covers might not be the most romantic thing, but champagne, strawberries and something sweet are less messy and a heck of a lot sexier.
With the money you save by dining in, you could also treat your fella and yourself to some fabulous lingerie and make this Valentine’s Day an excuse to have some fun! So whether you embrace Valentine’s Day with a special someone or rebel against it with your single friends, we hope you have a fabulous weekend and make the most of the extra love that will be in the air on what would otherwise be a very normal Monday.

As well as looking forward to having an extra couple of days off over Easter, we’re also excited to get the family together and enjoy some Easter fun (and food!). It’s a great time of year to get the family round and feast on some scrummy nosh. Not since Christmas have we had everyone round to eat drink and be merry, so its about time we got everyone together again.
As it’s almost spring, the weather is getting better/nights are getting lighter and there’s even more reason to celebrate! If you have young children or will be catering for young children around Easter then why not put together an Easter egg hunt. They’re great fun and will keep the kids entertained for hours (depending on how difficult you make it of course!).
If you’re planning a child free Easter, or your children have grown up, then you could always make the Easter egg hunt more of a challenge by creating cryptic clues and making the prize more interesting. We’re sure friends and family would be more keen to participate if they knew that there was a good bottle of wine at the end of the hunt! Easter is also good to test your baking skills.
With all the chocolate and sweet treats doing the rounds this time of year, no wonder it’s the busiest for home baking too! Cup cakes, buns, scones, hot cross buns there’s plenty to go at and you know what they say, practice makes perfect! Baking is also a fun activity for the whole family and is one of those past times that will always remind us of our own childhoods. Follow these links for recipe ideas and inspiration;

This time of year is about spending time with those you love whether you have a special someone or not. However, they say Christmas is actually the best time of year to be single! Think about it, you can eat whatever you want, you can go to whatever parties you want to go to, you don’t have to buy an overly expensive present and if you accidently kiss someone you shouldn’t have under the mistletoe its only yourself you have to answer to!
So if you are single, make the most of having your friends and family around. Plus there’s a whole 7 weeks until Valentine’s day, that’s plenty of time! So whether you’re single, married or dating make sure you don’t forget the most important thing about Christmas, having a ball with the people you love!
