Bag a Bargain

The Tan Leather Bag

The Tan Leather Bag

Peeking outside the window, it doesn’t look much like the height of summer, it’s more like autumn. Let’s hope it brightens up again soon. Until then, now would be good time to start bringing your autumn wardrobe together, as the autumn collections are starting to appear on the high street. You could start by adding accessories to your current wardrobe and Pepperberry have three great bags that would be perfect for next season.

The Tassel Slouch Bag in coral is a great soft, slouchy bag, that has plenty of room for all that stuff, that us girls carry around with us. Coral is a big colour this summer and it will continue to be seen in autumn/winter too, as pastels will be mixed with soft greys and nudes. The Tan Leather Bag is a fantastic autumn bag, tan is a great alternative to black or dark brown when the sun is still shining, but there is a crispness in the air. This bag is made of real leather and will look great this summer worn with a tan skinny belt over a little floral dress with bare legs and gladiator sandals, and in autumn or winter with tights and boots. The Canvas Shopper Bag is another great bag from Pepperberry, ‘shoppers’ have been on trend for a couple of years now, and this one is a real classic, with the contrast of the beige canvas with patent handles. This would look fabulous with a maxi dress and espadrilles for the rest of summer and when autumn comes, it will look super stylish with a pair of the new 70s style flared jeans, a checked shirt or white classic shirt, tucked in and belted and worn with a blazer, the look is Charlie’s Angels in the mid 70s.

All great bags, that will look great right now and will see you through the next season quite happily too. Look out for more on autumn wardrobe building in future Bravissimo blogs.

Time for T

The T-shirt is a hot trend for this summer, whether it’s cropped, slouchy & baggy, or one with a slogan. The T-shirt was initially created from an undergarment used in the 19th century, through cutting the one-piece “union suit” underwear into separate top and bottom garments. The T-shirt has had a long and varied history, it was worn by miners in the late 19th century, because it was perfect to be worn in hot environments. The US navy then issued them as regulation garments during the Spanish-American war. After World War II, veterans began wearing the T-shirt casually with their uniform trousers. Marlon Brando who starred in A Street Car Named Desire in the early 1950s, really made the T-shirt a cool piece of clothing and that’s when it became fashionable as outerwear. In the late 1960s the T-shirt started to be used as an art medium, decorated with bright graphics, cartoon characters and slogans. They could display a political protest, a love of a particular rock band or a souvenir of a holiday destination, like the iconic ‘I ❤ NY’. In the eighties Katherine Hamnett designed her famous outsize slogan T-shirts, like the famous CHOOSE LIFE T-shirt (worn by George Michael of Wham), and NO WAR and SAVE THE WORLD.

So if you have already found your perfect T and you are still searching for the perfect T-shirt bra to wear under it, then look no further, Bravissimo have some great bras that will create a smooth silhouette under your T-shirt. Try our Smoothing Seamfree Bra by Fantasie, it is an underwired moulded balconette, it comes in black or nude, it will become a real wardrobe favourite, as it gives great uplift, support and shape. We know there are many Deco fans out there, and lets face it, it is a great bra, the Deco Bra by Freya gives amazing cleavage, and comes in black, nude and the new colour mint, which is selling out fast. It is recommended that you go down a cup size in the Deco if you are between sizes.
The Porcelain bra by Panache is a fantastic everyday bra, it creates a lovely rounded shape and is cut higher in the cups to accommodate our bigger-boobed Bravissimo ladies, it is very comfortable and will look great under any T-shirt from the super fine to the more heavyweight option.

Smart Packing

Coral Print Maxi Dress

Coral Print Maxi Dress

Another Monday morning. At this time of year many of us are counting the days and hours until we are lying on a sun-drenched beach far away from the office, the heaving supermarket, or the traffic on the school run. Holiday packing is an art these days, especially as some of the budget airlines charge you by weight for your suitcase. If you don’t want the hassle of having to unpack everything at the departure gate because your bag is on the heavy side, then read on, as this is your guide to packing your Bravissimo and Pepperberry summer holiday capsule wardrobe.

Maxi dresses can be worn day or night (changing flip flops to wedges at night and adding some great gold hooped earrings and gold bangles). See the Coral Print Maxi Dress by Bravissimo, it is a very flattering empire line and sits under the bust creating a fabulous cleavage. It is a great colour and will look fantastic with a tan and it’s made of cotton, so it will keep you nice and cool. The Jersey Beach Dress by Bravissimo in fuchsia, is the perfect beach cover-up, it’s very simple, stylish and looks great. The Bandeau Beach Dress by Bravissimo comes in gorgeous aqua blue that will also look amazing with a golden glow. The bandeau style and halterneck is super flattering. This dress could also double up for nights with some chunky silver jewellery and silver thong sandals.
The Bright Ideas Tankini Top by Faubourg is new and exclusive from Bravissimo. It is a great alternative to the swimsuit if your bikini days are over. This tankini is in a bold black and white floral print and has that surf girl feel to it. It is underwired, with a halterneck and has matching drawstring briefs.
The Spotty Tulip Dress by Pepperberry is a really fun, sexy, frock and perfect if you fancy dressing up a bit while you’re on your hols. The dress boasts two popular trends this summer, the tulip shape and the spots. It is slightly shorter than shown online, so be prepared to show some leg! The next dress definitely deserves a mention, as it’s really popular with our Bravissimo ladies is the Tulip Print Chiffon Shirt Dress by Pepperberry. A lovely feminine, floral, floaty dress and can be dressed up or down. The Leaf Dress by Pepperberry, in light summery satin, is great for balmy summer nights. It comes in fuchsia or turquoise, the neckline is a crossover plunge v, which flatters the boobs and the elasticated empire line panel highlights and defines the waist area.
If it does get chilly at night, you may need a cardi to throw over your shoulders, try the Deep Rib Cardigan by Pepperberry or the Grosgrain Tape Cardi by Pepperberry, both work as perfect summer cover-ups and they are light enough not to make your suitcase groan. A few of your Bravissimo favourite lingerie sets, your lightest nightdress, a panama or wide brimmed sun hat, one pair of Havianas and one pair of evening wedges or heels and your done! You are now ready to say bon voyage to the rain soaked runway and hello to foreign summer sun.

Suits You Madam

Soprano Swimsuit by Hoola Swimwear

Soprano Swimsuit by Hoola Swimwear

There’s some great news this summer for us ladies, the swimsuit is back. The poor old swimsuit has had a tough time in the last few years, it has had to compete with its sassy little sister, the bikini. Up until recently the choice has not been great, you were ok if you wanted to buy a functional swimsuit for serious swimming at the pool or your other option was the safe slimming black number, but there wasn’t much else out there on the high street.

In 2011 the one piece is enjoying a revival and has become sexy again. The swimsuit is also a lot more flattering if your tummy is not as flat as it once was. Lets face it, whether it’s a post-baby belly or normal weight gain that comes with age, a perfectly flat stomach is hard to achieve and a swimsuit can hide a multitude of sins. Bravissimo have got some fabulous swimsuits this season, one that definitely deserves a mention is Soprano Swimsuit by Hoola Swimwear. You will look drop dead gorgeous in this on the beach, it comes in coral and white pinstripes and has that 1950’s shape that is so on trend right now. The vertical stripes are very flattering and the halterneck straps give great uplift, and fantastic cleavage. Get it before it goes! And don’t forget to check out Bravissimo’s other swimsuits right here.

Festival Chic

Pepperberry's Crinkle Tiered Dress

Pepperberry's Crinkle Tiered Dress

The world’s most famous & loved festival, Glastonbury, kicks off today. Started 41 years ago by Michael Eavis on his own land, Worthy Farm in Somerset. The first gathering only attracted 1,500 people, the ticket price was £1 and free milk was given out to all! Today the event attracts people of all ages from all over the world and the site is so big, it resembles a small town.

Whatever the weather at Glastonbury (last year very sunny, 2007 the wettest on record, this year starting wet, but will dry up, fingers crossed) the festival is THE place to do some people watching and it’s a fantastic opportunity to check out some amazing fashion. Looking good at a festival is an art, it has to look effortless and you have to be prepared for rain & shine.

So if our Bravissimo girls are heading to any of this summer’s festivals, here is your definitive guide to what to wear and what to bring. Pepperberry have some great festival fashion, the Crinkle Tiered Dress in orange is the perfect festival dress and will look great with a pair of posh Hunter wellies. Don’t forget your shorts, like Pepperberry’s Button Front Short in navy, they also look really cute with a pair of wellies, (and navy won’t show the mud). The Viscose Floral Scarf just screams Glastonbury, and a scarf is a pretty handy piece of clothing at a festival, it will keep your neck warm at night when there is a nip in the air, it will also protect you from the sun, if it gets too hot. The Long Shell Necklace has that hippy vibe and will complete your festival outfit.

    Other Essential Items:
Long socks, (there is nothing worse than short socks disappearing into the depths of your wellies)
    Hand sanitiser
    Baby wipes
    Sun cream
    Toilet roll
Small purse or bag, that you can wear across the body
Wellies (don’t bother with any other kind of footwear)
    Sun hat
    Waterproof jacket with hood
And don’t forget your toothbrush (you never know who you might kiss)

Beach Glamour

Mystere Plunge Bikini Top

Mystere Plunge Bikini Top

Coleen Rooney has been snapped this week soaking up the rays on holiday in Barbados (we know what you’re thinking, when is she not on holiday?). The reason she has hit the headlines, is because she reportedly has spent £1,500 on beachwear. Well maybe some celebrities can justify spending that amount of money, as they probably spend most of their year on a far-flung beach, but for us mere mortals, we want to look great, without the hefty designer price tag.

So Bravissimo are here to help, we have lined up some copycat beachwear at a much more sensible price. These items are sure to stand up against Mrs Rooney’s for style and quality and they will also flatter and support our bigger boobs.

The bikini that Coleen wore on day three of her holiday, looks like it could be by the famous designer Emilio Pucci, the Mystere Plunge Bikini Top by Freya and matching tie briefs, (you can also buy the bikini shorts if you want more coverage) have that Pucci feel, with the vibrant paisley print. This bikini has had great reviews with our Bravissimo ladies, as it offers fantastic uplift and is incredibly flattering. She also wore a black bikini with gold detail on day two, by an American swimwear label, a favourite with celebrities, for a similar bikini try Bravissimo’s Anna Bikini Top by Panache, it’s the popular Geneva shape, with a new matt finish and is underwired, it also comes with three different styles of matching bikini bottoms.

Coleen also loved to wear a Kaftan or two while she was in Barbados. Kaftans are a really chic way to cover up and, they no longer look like they should belong in the seventies. For a really glam Kaftan, try the Beaded Kaftan by Bravissimo, it comes in a gorgeous coral colour, is made of cotton so it will keep you cool and, is decorated with coral colour gems and gold beading, just perfect!

Battle of the Frocks

So this week saw one of the biggest nights in the ‘oh no not more TV awards’ calendar, the Soap Awards. However we love The Soap Awards here at Bravissimo, firstly because they look like they are having a right giggle and secondly because the fashion is so much more accessible than other big awards ceremonies like The Baftas or The Oscars. Yes, we love those events because of the sheer glamour and star quality, but our favourite soap stars dressing up to the nines for the night is much more fun. So let’s look at who got it very right on the night and who needs to sack the stylist.

Katherine Kelly (Becky from Corrie) looked stunning in a grey and yellow one-shouldered draped dress with a high split.

Jennifer Metcalfe (Mercedes from Hollyoaks) wore a black pantsuit, it was definitely show stopping but a bit too revealing, the trousers were too wide and too short, they would have looked more elegant, had they been tapered and longer.

Jessie Wallace (Kat in Eastenders) looked very glamorous in a white flowing, Grecian inspired dress with an encrusted jewelled neckpiece. Her accessories, makeup and hair, fit perfectly with the dress, nicely understated for such a statement dress.

Alison King (Carla in Corrie), wore a long tunic style kaftan, it wasn’t the best choice, Alison has got a great figure and this dress was shapeless and hid her body, it also looked quite beachy.

Shobna Gulati (Sunita in Corrie) should probably get another stylist, this outfit looked like she was attending a fancy dress party as a flamenco dancer! The tulle skirt was too big and fussy, the bolero looked like a bad eighties mistake and the pink shoes were not needed.

Jo Joyner (Tanya in EastEnders) hit the right note and wore a simple black fitted wrap body con dress, which flattered her bigger boobs brilliantly, she accessorised it with nude heels and gold clutch, her hair was just left natural and tousled and she looked radiant with a light tan.

If you’re attending a glitzy event this summer, and want to get the right look, browse our Pepperberry Evening Dress range and you’ll be sure to add a touch of elegance to the occasion.

Mother’s Day

Treat your mum this weekend to a fab new bra or two!

Treat your mum this weekend to a fab new bra or two!

This weekend is Mother’s Day so why not treat you mum to a bra fitting by Bravissimo? As girls and young women growing up it was often our mothers who took us for our first ever bra fitting and some women still feel that same amount of dread when going for bra fittings now. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Here at Bravissimo we understand that many women feel conscious about their bra size that’s why we have specially trained fitters who will do their best to make anyone that is coming for a fitting feel at ease. Our emphasis is on fit and comfort and not on the sizes themselves. We want women of all ages and sizes to be wearing a bra that supports them correctly, is comfortable and stylish.

So why not repay your mum with a bra shopping trip? Our boobs fluctuate in shape and size throughout our lives so it’s important to monitor these changes and adjust your bra size so that you are getting the right amount of support. You can check out our Perfect Fit Guide but why not come into one of our branches and make the most of our expert fitters’ knowledge and experience. Throw in lunch and you’ve got a fab day out for you and your mum!

What a difference a daylight saving makes

British Summer Time begins!

British Summer Time begins!

Last weekend end the clocks ‘sprung’ forward and officially marked the start of British Summer Time. (Hopefully you remembered and were not too confused when your smart phone changed automatically but the regular clocks did not). And boy, what a difference it makes. It’s not quite as light when we wake up which doesn’t make too much difference when we’re bleary eyed until the second caffeine fix at the earliest. What does make a huge difference however is how light the nights are. It’s now light when we get home from work which makes us feel like doing things after work instead of simply slinking into our comfy clothes and staying in. Besides, we stayed in all winter so are ready and raring to make the most of the milder weather and light evenings.

So how will you make the most of the lighter nights? You could arrange to meet up with the friends you haven’t seen for a while and go out for dinner, the lighter nights will make your evening feel extended and not cut them short by everyone wanting to rush home as soon as the sun goes down. You could start a class, evening classes are great for those little things you might always wanted to have tried but never got round to; a new language; a new skill; a cookery course or even a dance class. With all this extra energy buzzing around why not put it to good use? The ever looming summer has started a health kick in the Bravissimo office and at homes and offices up and down the country to get fit for the beach. If you’re not a gym bunny however you can still look fabulous in Bravissimo swimwear with its figure flattering shape and boob boosting features in a range of bikinis, tankinis and swimsuits to suit every style. For a great look on the beach without the strict diet and extreme exercise regime!

Lent

How will you treat yourself after Lent?

How will you treat yourself after Lent?

It’s not quite been a week yet but we’re already seriously craving the things we have given up. You may, like us, have eaten enough sugary stuff on Pancake Day to last the whole 46 days of Lent but sometimes denying ourselves something only makes us want it more! That’s why a reward is needed to keep us all going and to give us a light at the end of the tunnel to look forward to.

If you gave up shopping then firstly you’re much stronger than we are here at the Bravissimo office, secondly you might want to think of a reward that you can focus on to keep your motivation up. This will also give you time to think about the things you want to buy and if after 46 days you still can’t get that pair of shoes out of your head then you should treat yourself to them! If the feeling passes however then you’ll know you made the right decision and will have saved yourself a few pounds. Why not treat a loved one too? If you have a friend or family member who really deserves a treat, be it a post Lent treat or not, why not give them a Bravissimo gift voucher? That way they get to choose what they spend it on and you will be known as the kind thoughtful one!

If you’ve decided to give up chocolate, sweet things or other food stuffs that are generally bad for your health then you’ll probably be in the same boat as us (seriously craving them). Why not plan a spa day for some serious post Lent pampering? Not that we need an excuse some for some R&R but not eating chocolate for 46 days is quite a feat and a treat that doesn’t involve making up the calories will be far more rewarding.

Good luck, only another 40 days to go!
