The good news is that the transition between chillier and warmer weather at this time of year can easily be navigated with items that you probably already have in your wardrobe, add them to your summer clothes and you have a wardrobe that will see you through to August.
The denim jacket is a winner this time of year and everyone has one somewhere in their wardrobe. A denim jacket can be worn over a pretty day dress, see Pepperberry’s Cotton Frill Day Dress, or looks fantastic with a maxi dress, like Bravissimo’s Coral Print Maxi Dress, and, if sandals are a touch too optimistic, a pair of plimsolls will work just as well with both of these looks.
The other great transitional piece is ‘The Shirt’ – it can be worn with jeans, or this season’s khaki or beige chinos. See Pepperberry’s fabulous Relaxed Fit Chinos in stone. The humble shirt can also be worn with a button through denim skirt, which is more substantial than a cotton skirt, if the weather is chilly. So whether it’s classic white or checked, the shirt is a must, for the changeable weather. Don’t miss Pepperberry’s own version – the Check Woven Blouse.
A boyfriend cardigan is incredibly versatile, it can be belted and worn over tapered trousers or skinny jeans and can also be worn loose over shorts or a dress. Pepperberry’s Boyfriend Cardigan in Mocha looks fabulous over the Mint Swirl Dress, wear with leggings, if there is a nip in the air. Also everywhere in the high street at the moment you will find shorts. Love them or hate them, Pepperberry have a pretty fabulous pair, the Button Front Shorts in white, which look great with a wide striped vest or t-shirt, add plimsolls or a pair of wedges to complete the nautical look.
So we can now feel confident that whatever the British weather throws at us in the coming months, we have it covered and, someone once said, “There is no such thing as bad weather only bad clothes.”

A hot topic of discussion in the Bravissimo office today, which came about because of the beautiful weather we have been having, was, ‘What exactly do us Bravissimo girls wear to work or to do the school run, in this kind of heat?’ Shorts are a tricky option, sometimes best left for boy scouts or footballers, maxi dresses are great for the beach or a summer party but can be impractical for driving or getting on and off trains, and trousers – too hot! The best option is a really easy-to-wear dress, which can be dressed up or down with a smart linen blazer or colourful cardi. And the humble dress can be accessorised in a whole host of ways, changing the look entirely.
Pepperberry, (Bravissimo’s new clothing label), has some great dresses that would definitely fit the bill. Pepperberry’s range is designed with your boobs in mind, so no more having to buy two dress sizes too big just to fit your boobs! The very easy-to wear, Ditsy Floral Dress is a great little tea dress and to go from day to night, if your having drinks after work, you could wear with leggings, ballets flats and a denim jacket (check out Pepperberry’s Stretch Denim Blazer).
One of Pepperberry’s new arrivals is the Ikat Print Dress, it’s a light cotton dress in a warm ethnic print, and the clever part is the tabs on the straps that attach to your bra. Try accessorising with Bravissimo’s Wooden Necklace and Bracelet for daytime and to glam up for a night out, accessorise with the Chain Necklace and Gold Cuff.
If you are after a very wearable jersey dress then the new Mint Swirl Dress, in a tropical floral print, could be your summer staple and it will stay looking fabulous all day long. You can accessorise with the Glass Bead Bracelet and Glass Bead Necklace in colbalt and for a cover up when it gets a bit cooler, the Deep Rib Cardigan in magenta. Also new from Pepperberry makes a great contrast with the blues of the dress, grab the lovely Tassel Slouch Bag in coral to finish off the look.

Nothing says summer quite like a whiter than white summer dress. Whether you go for a lacy number which is bang on trend this summer or a simple cotton style, the one rule is that it must be white. The catwalk was full of white maxi dresses, long flowing trousers and top-to-toe white suits which looked great but wouldn’t last 5 minutes in the real world. So when wearing white remember to keep your eye out for potential stain hazards, don’t eat anything without a bib and make sure it’s an easy to wash fabric.
If you didn’t do it last this season then we think you should try embracing the denim trend this season. There are rules however to keep it elegant and avoid the 90s throw back look. We don’t care what the designers say, double denim looks funny! An easy way to introduce denim into your wardrobe is with a simple denim shirt. Choose a fitted style in light or dark denim and wear in place of a cotton shirt for a smart/casual look. Alternatively you could try an oversized shirt and wear open over a summer dress or with leggings. Shirts however can be stuffy when it’s hot so when summer finally arrives swap the denim shirt for a denim skirt. Or go for a denim jacket when the weather permits a lighter jacket option.
We’ve had plenty of practice over winter at layering our clothing and dressing for the ever changing weather conditions, so you should have no problem translating what you’ve leaned over winter into your spring wear. Layers are great when the weather is unpredictable, as we approach spring and with the inevitable April showers on their way, there’s no better time to perfect this style of dressing. The overall look should be light and breezy, mixing long and short layers in lightweight fabrics and breathing new life into old pieces by mixing things up. Top tip; don’t be afraid to experiment with this look.
A big trend last summer and it’s back this season too. Make best use of the pieces you bought last season and work them into your summer wardrobe. Be careful however to choose the right shade for your skin tone, a pale nude will wash out pale skin, blondes should go for a darker shade, whereas brunettes can work the lighter shades for the barely there look. Top tip; mix shades and tones to avoid looking too nude and break up your look with belts, bags and accessories in contrasting shades of brown.

They can be chic, simple, fun or funky plus they’re great for disguising bad hair days or in between colourings if you dye your hair, so why do we wear hats so infrequently? Maybe it’s because us ladies spend a lot of time on our hair, getting the cut, style and colour right can take a lot of time and maintenance so the idea of all that effort being hidden underneath a hat doesn’t really make sense. On the other hand, a hat could save you precious getting ready time so that way you have more time to enjoy yourself and do whatever it was you were getting ready for!
Why not try dressing up a woolly hat? We’re fans of the casual smart look here at Bravissimo and a cute woolly hat can be given the style treatment with a pair of fitted jeans and heels. Woolly layers are at the forefront of minds and our wardrobes as the weather gets increasingly cooler but we think even practical layers such as hats, scarves and gloves should be fun too! The 70s is a huge trend this autumn with flared trousers, silk pussy bow blouses and the all important camel coat so why not add a 70s style floppy felt hat to that list? Or go for a chic beret, the French know how to do understated style and the beret is no exception; simple yet effect and a fashion favourite that never really goes out of style! Command attention in a military style cap; with the military trend the effect is all in the detail and so a cap with cute button detailing will add a smart twist to any outfit. Top tip: limit your military coat, boots, hat, tops and dresses to 2 pieces at a time maximum, leave the top-to-toe look to the actual military!
Check out our military style coat with gorgeous button detailing and plenty of room for your boobs without the extra bulk. The trilby hat is stylish, smart and sophisticated; wear yours with jeans heeled brogues and trench coat for a glamorous Mrs Gadget look or channel Marlene Dietrich and wear with a suit, a sultry smile and heels. Throughout history hats have been worn for many occasions especially those more formal occasions and were worn on a regular basis, a hat makes a great fashion accessory and immediately changes your outfit so we say why not get ahead in the style stakes and get a hat!
