The fashion industry had a very hard task this week. They had to carry on with the catwalk shows of New York Fashion Week and the business of fashion – which can seem frivolous at the best of times – whilst the city is remembering 9/11 and marking the 10 year anniversary of those lost. A very sad day, but the shows went on.
Victoria Beckham’s was one of the shows that took place, she has had an extra busy time of late, only just having had baby Harper, who accompanied her (of course) but she still managed to produce an accomplished collection for spring/summer 2012. Short shift dresses featured and body con fitted dresses that finish mid calf with cut away vest tops, racer backs and exposed zips. She showed parkers and voluminous kimono jackets in heavy silk satins. The collection is simple, chic with more than a look of sportswear about it.
Alexander Wang’s spring/summer collection also was inspired by sportswear, although he took his inspiration from tougher sports like Motorcross. Wang used high shine, waterproof fabrics, and leather. He also showcased the exposed zip and used chevron and monochrome prints. Peter Som’s catwalk show featured 1960s inspired tiny shorts, mini dresses and short shirt dresses. All in neons and acids brights, like citrus yellow, turquoise and bright corals. We also saw him use clashing sixties prints.
So what does all this mean in terms of lingerie for next spring/summer? Well, we can expect to be a bit more adventurous with colour, we will be seeing more neon brights and electric colours like our Melody Full Cup Bra by Panache in electric blue. We may see more large, sixties inspired floral prints, moving away from the small ditsy print of this year. There will definitely be a move towards a sportier look for bras. We are not talking about sports bras here, there will be a different sportier shape, but using gorgeous vibrant colours and prints in silky fabrics to keep that feminine look.

You may be going to a wedding reception, or have tickets to the theatre, or you may be meeting the girls for cocktails and canapés followed by a meal at a top restaurant. Whether it’s a very special birthday, or a friend’s wedding, it will be glamorous and swanky and everyone will be dressed in their finery.
Bravissimo are here to hold your hand and point you in the right direction, look no further than Pepperberry, Bravissimo’s own clothing range. If you have worn your old faithful Pepperberry dress at previous weddings and birthdays, we have some stunning new dresses in this week, that are bang on trend and will be perfect for August and September, but will also be great for Christmas parties later in the year.
The Platinum Shift Dress, is an absolutely sensational dress and is following the bodycon trend that originated from the designer Herve Leger, who has been designing these dresses since the eighties. Later the trend was reinvented by Victoria Beckham in her first collection. This dress by Pepperberry is very flattering and will hug your curves, it is structured, which is always a better option for bigger boobs. The dress is fully lined in contrasting purple and it is available in platinum satin. It has capped sleeves and an aubergine skinny belt that is detachable. For a dramatic look you could accessorise it with purple heels, clutch bag and wrap.
The Rose Print Prom Dress, is a cutie of a dress, it takes its inspiration from the 1950s. The bodice of the dress is in jewel-like purple and the skirt is a lovely rose print with a net underskirt for that great fifties look. The waist is defined by a large purple bow, which is reversible and there are hidden tabs under the straps to keep your bra in place too. You could accessorise with black satin heels, a short satin tuxedo bolero, and a teal clutch.
There are plenty more utterly gorgeous, sexy and chic dresses in our NEW IN section online or available in our stores. So whatever your posh event this bank holiday weekend, don’t miss out, and switch on the glamour with Pepperberry.

After the BAFTAS came the Oscars and what a night it was. All the Hollywood A-listers were dressed up to the nines, with designer dresses, shoes, handbags and not to mention million of dollars worth of jewellery this event truly was a fashion show in itself!
Who won what;
Sandra Bullock won Best Actress for her role in The Blind Side and reminded us why we love her so much with her heart warming speech and the fact that she stopped off for a burger before heading to the after show parties! What a woman! Kathryn Bigelow made history with her film Hurt Locker by becoming the first woman to win the Best Director award as well as five other awards for the same film. While her ex-husband James Cameron who directed big budget film Avatar missed out, but there was little rivalry between the estranged couple as they joked about the situation backstage.
And the dresses;
Of course, being the Oscars there were plenty of embellishments, frills and floor length gowns, well if you can’t get away with it at the Oscars then where can you get away with it?! Mariah Carey dressed very modestly and showed us curvy girls how to do chic but sexy. She wore an elegant dress cut to flatter her big boobs and jewelled detail drawing attention to her waist. She couldn’t resist a thigh high split though, at least it was a relatively modest split! The new girls on the block (Carey Mulligan, Kirsten Stewart and Gabourey Sidibe) proved they have what it takes to keep up with their more red carpet experienced counter parts and all opted for long gowns, which they looked fab in!
Victoria Beckham launched her new clothing line just in time to dress some of the other celebrities gracing the red carpet. Demi Moore and Cameron Diaz both wore VB’s designs on the night, so even if the British nominees came home empty handed (Colin Firth, Carey Mulligan and Helen Mirren) Mrs Beckham definitely was a winner. SJP looked stunning in her embellished ivory Chanel number we can’t wait to see the outfits in the new SATC film, 10 weeks to go!! There were also plenty of frills at this year’s awards driving the romantic trend for spring/summer. Prints also featured on the red carpet. Only usually at a wedding can us mere mortals get that dressed up for an occasion and that’s only if we’re the bride or bridesmaid. With all these amazing frocks around, we might just have to think of our own red carpet event just to dress up in a Hollywood style gown! Hmmm…
